The event

At 11:30 am, the Event officially commenced.all teaching staff and students of the School, and parents of the selected children attended the brief but official opening ceremony.

After that, the three selected children started to draw on the scroll and the picture was finished in one and a half hour.

All children at Xingfeng Primary School were excited about the event because this was the first time the School organized such activity.
The School Principal thanked us for inviting the School to participate in this meaningful event.
He said teachers have benefited from equipping themselves with the teaching tools on environmental protection while the children have acquired useful tips in protecting the environment and health in their daily life.

Onyx (Guangzhou) Company Limited is the operator of Guangzhou Xingfeng Municipal Solid Waste Landfill.
The organization of this event has helped develop a rapport with Xingfeng Primary School, thus fostering a good relationship with our neighbour.

In 2000, Guangzhou City Appearance and Environmental Sanitation Bureau (GESA) awarded Onyx (Guangzhou) Co. Ltd a contract for the design, construction supervision and 8-year operations of the Guangzhou Xingfeng Municipal Solid Waste Sanitary Landfill.
The Xingfeng Landfill, located in Baiyuan District, is 38km from the city center of Guangzhou. It currently accepts and processes 100% of all the municipal waste generated in Guangzhou which amounts to over 6,000 tonnes of waste per day. It is the first landfill in Mainland China that is operated by a multinational company in accordance to international standards.
The Xingfeng Landfill commenced operation in December 2002.

Guangzhou Guang Jia Environmental Protection Co. Ltd designed, constructed and now operates a landfill gas-to-energy plant at the Guangzhou Datianshan Landfill through a Co-operative Joint Venture Agreement with Guangzhou City Appearance and Environmental Sanitation Bureau (GESA).
The plant commenced operation in July 1999 for a term of 20 years.

The Guangzhou City Appearance and Environmental Sanitation Bureau (GESA) supported the establishment of the School back in 1999 when the Government planned to build a municipal solid waste sanitary landfill in this Xingfeng Village.

All grade 2 to 4 children in the School will participate in a drawing competition in the week of March 29.A judging panel which comprises of the Principal, the Administrative Director and the Arts teacher of the School, a representative from GESA and the Onyx landfill General Manager, will select 3 to 5 winners. These winners will draw their messages on the Scroll on the date of event.

With the support of the School and under the guidance of teachers, this event aims to increase the children's awareness of their environment and health, and encourage them to adopt some simple good habits in their everyday life to protect the environment and their health.

The selected children will draw their messages on the VE Scroll during lunch time at around 11:30am on the date of event.All teachers and children of Xingfeng Primary School, representatives of GESA and Onyx (Guangzhou) Co. Ltd. will be present to support and witness the event.
