Our flag
EB1 de Cavadas - Turma 8 (3e e 4e anos)
Vermoim - Maia
The centre of our flag symbolises the world, for it is the world that we want to change, to recycle. The world is round, evoking something cyclical, endless. That's what we hope will happen to our planet: we hope it will endure forever! But to that end we must take some urgent measures: we must preserve the environment in order to improve the world. Only then will we be healthy and be able to continue striving for a better life and an increasingly healthy world.
The colours we have chosen for our flag represent exactly what we have just mentioned: the colour green symbolises Nature and a healthy environment; the colour blue symbolises water, the source of life and renewal; the colour yellow symbolises sunlight, an element which is vital to life, and the colour red symbolises health and the blood which flows in our veins. The last three elements (water, sun and blood) are all vital to our life. We have chosen to draw triangles (because they have three sides) - one for each pupil in this class. Each triangle represents the life of each of us and what is vital to him or her. But life (or at least a healthy life) is only possible in a healthy environment, hence the use of the colour green.
The arrows which we have placed around our drawing represent the recycling which we must do in this world and which are people's responsibility, given that they are positioned around the triangles which symbolise us.
We had a lot of fun drawing this flag and we learned a lot about the environment and its link to our health in the process. Now we know better what needs to be done to improve our planet and ensure that we can continue to live there in the best conditions!

The schools have been provided with educational materials and have until 15 March 2005 to send us their projects.
The choice of the winning streamer will be decided by a jury composed of one member from each of the participating municipalities and each company in the Veolia Environnement Group, which will receive a hard and soft copy of the projects sent by the schools and must decide on the winner by 21 March 2005.
The name of the winning class will be announced on World Water Day on 22 March.
A special day out for the winning class
On 7 April, CGEP, Dalkia and Onyx will organise a special day out for the winning class that will join us in one of most special places on the site, where the International World Exposition was held in 1998 in Lisbon, the famous Oceanarium.
The children will begin to reproduce their project on the material and will have lunch in the Oceanarium and, after a guided visit of the sites; they will take part in a practical workshop on oceans. From 4.30 pm a cocktail party will be held for the various guests of the Group companies (municipal and institutional) and the press for the announcement of the final result of the streamer event in Portugal when the streamer representing Portugal will be unveiled and presented.
On this occasion, Veolia Environnement will present and show the Scroll which also stopped off in Portugal last year. Many among us will thus be able to see this masterpiece in all its natural splendour.
