Words belong to the children

The "Cities around the World" children are now busy discovering their own cities.

The stories and drawings produced by the winning classes in each participating country are already available. We'd like to invite you to discover them!

Some quotes which emphasize the children goodwill to take care of their environment:

Avellanada, Argentina: « All the members of my family were born and raised here, and they helped build the city from very little into what it is today, big and modern. The Earth's inhabitants will realise that if we put a lot of effort into it and works as a team we can make our cities a better place to live. »

Gladstone, Australia: "Many people just throw their plastic bags and rubbish into the environment and it makes its way to the ocean. All the poor turtles and sea creatures think the rubbish is food and they eat it. They can even die from choking."

Chengdu, China: "One day in the future, light rail will whistle over the city, the passengers in which will view the whole city with pride and surprise. The city decorated with green trees and fresh flowers is always spring in the four seasons. We firmly believe that the future of Chengdu will be more beautiful!"

Palmira, Colombia: "I am famous because the majority of my inhabitants have bicycles as an environmentally-friendly means of transportation. I often feel pain, when pollution invades my areas and main attractions. I would like to be modernised and more civic-minded city."

Cormontreuil, France: "Since my birth, I have expanded and spread; humans have greatly transformed me. I would like to live in harmony with nature, to break down the walls which separate me from the countryside, forests and fields and let them penetrate right to my heart."

Tripoli, Lebanon: "My beautiful seaside city, you make me sad inside. Your historic monuments are gradually becoming damaged; the famous Hammam Ezzedine built in the time of the Mamelukes has become a big dustbin. The children will begin to plant trees everywhere. Buds will appear and Tripoli once again will become a city which smells of orange groves."

Tillabéri, Niger: "I must be beautiful, mirroring the day and shining with illuminations everywhere. So that you are proud of your good work which gives me reason for being and gives you joy, pride, happiness and fulfilment."

Poznan, Poland: "Instead of spending our time inside, we could play on the roof, in the green areas, in mini-parks. There would also be trees and bushes; we could look at butterflies and birds flying. It would be so beautiful then, like a botanic garden."

Ploiesti, Romania: "When it was young, the city was very happy. Its inhabitants loved it, decorated it with flowers, and built beautiful houses there with big gardens. But what makes the city suffer most now is that people don't love it like they used to. They surround it with fences, choke it with fumes from cars."

Lomnicka, Slovakia: "I look after the parks, the greenery, the flowers, the water, the forest and I protect the environment. The young children want a better life. Also teach your children with the curly hair to live healthily, cleanly, to protect you, o that you can all be happy and healthy."

Caracas, Venezuela: "To play in a clean, orderly city where I can breathe clean air, where I can practice sports out-doors without being afraid of getting ill. Our city was not only made to be lived in, it was also made to be taken care of."
